about
fem_fluence is a web archive that collects selected texts with a feminist perspective on social media, especially Instagram and YouTube. Feminism has experienced an unexpected dynamic through new forms of images developed in social media. Instead of fighting against traditional role models and questioning existing ideals of beauty, the focus is now predominantly on establishing one's own body ideals. In addition, the (self-) staging and optimization in the neoliberal social context is moving into the focus of current feminist discussion. The archive presents scholarly essays, research papers, columns as well as background knowledge and theories on the topic and links them to each other. Readers can categorize and filter the texts according to their interest. The archive book also makes these texts accessible offline. The accompanying images were created by analyzing the visual language of 200 influencers on Instagram and YouTube.
